    I did not say no regulation, I am saying a series of reactionary rule changes will not be effective and this is where we are. The regulation that came after 2008 was designed to prevent another 2008. The next true crisis will be different enough that any regulation enacted will be deemed inadequate.

    I don't know how else to say it. It used to be that there would be periods where the miners did better and then other times where the metal did better. There would be a rotation between the two that some felt was tradeable.

    For about six years the metal has far and away outperformed, generally speaking.

    We own two Swiss stocks so we are favorably disposed. The risk to the story as I see it is that if there is another shoe to drop in the banking crisis Switzerland could be in trouble, similar to Iceland the banks are many many times larger than the country.

    Also the country has tried to peg the franc to the euro which may not end well.

    As one friend once said, they're our team we've got to love them.

    Never owned Poland. The closest we ever got was LUKOY several years ago. It seems as though several of these countries have obstacles that while nowhere near as bad as Western Europe seem difficult to overcome. Some other ones like Latvia might be just as bad.

    I don't know Poland's story as much as I did before the crisis.

    the idea behind this is that there is more investor demand for debt when the curve is steeper or getting steeper. The bond buyer can get more attractive yields but you are correct that the borrower would rather pay a lower rate. Your point would seem like a flaw in the theory but they theory seems to work out more often than not (casual observation).

    trading as you describe it in your example is difficult but not impossible. Any given investor can "figure out" a given stock and trade it successfully and so there is no reason not to do this in the context we are talking about. The difficulty then becomes realizing when the thing you've figured out changes--at some point it will of course.

    The information about the Vietnam ETF was right out in front to be seen by anyone interested. I am not sure how that would relate to most other country funds where there is an easily tracked index.
